Car-gated access
<p>The same neighborhood site becomes unusable as a casual third place when the trip requires a car.</p><p>Walking past a bar on the way home is a low-step, low-commitment act. Seeing the same bar, finding a space, locking the car, and later retrieving it is a planned outing. Casual drop-in dies first. This can reduce use and then kill qualifying function even when the building is still “in the community” on a map.</p><p>Distinct from dislocation: dislocation is about who else is in the room. This is about the psychological and time cost of the trip to a site that may still be nearby.</p><p>Fails if walk-access and drive-only sites with the same price and objects show the same casual drop-in rates, or if adding parking does not change visit spontaneity.</p>
